This project entailed the expansion and renovation of the 90-year-old Belcourt Theatre. By sacrificing a small and relatively unused portion of the 1966 theatre, the lobby was able to extend to the addition to create a visually organized main corridor to access an indoor ticket box office, new and sufficient restrooms, upgraded concessions, added alcove with seating for patrons waiting for movies, light locks for both theatres, a much needed elevator and a patron friendly stair leading to new spaces on the second floor.
Semi-public and private program spaces were added to the second floor while improving the projector room configurations. These added patron rooms include a pre-function hall, a screening room, and a classroom to accommodate private events and educational outreach programs. The largest volume of addition is comprised of a highly desired office wing with covered parking below. The ultimate goal of this project was to update and add program spaces to serve the current function of the theatre while being thoughtful to the scale of Hillsboro Village and the historic context.
