Project Overview
R.C. Mathews Contractor renovated and built out 38 Music Square East, transforming the former Buddy Lee Attraction building into a 17,654-square-foot academic and creative hub for Belmont University’s Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business in the heart of Music Row. The project converted an existing facility into a modern environment with new offices, specialized music rooms, conference areas, and collaboration spaces that support hands-on learning and industry engagement. Work included comprehensive electrical and mechanical upgrades, major structural repairs and upgrades to address unforeseen conditions, and highly technical interior buildouts, including an elevator lobby, lounge/ kitchenette, listening lounge, songwriting studio, sound-isolated practicum suites, an AET classroom, songwriter’s stage, updated restrooms, and student support spaces. Located just inches between an existing office building and active recording studios, the project required careful planning, noise and vibration control, and close communication with neighboring tenants to minimize disruption. R.C. Mathews coordinated closely with the design team and owner to sequence construction around ongoing campus and business operations, maintain safety and access, and deliver a high-performance, flexible space that honors the site’s historic music legacy while meeting contemporary academic and creative needs.
